Vietnamese Student Association (VSA)

Chapman's Vietnamese Student Association is a social and cultural club bringing people together to celebrate Vietnamese and Vietnamese-American heritage. The club strives to create a welcoming space where students can form authentic and lasting connections, contribute to the greater community at Chapman and Orange County, and find pride in their unique cultural experiences.

Charlene was actively involved with Chapman VSA since freshman year. She served on board as the ICC(2019-2020) and was the vice-president(2020-2021). 

​

She has used her personal cultural experiences and creativity to contribute to the holistic vision of celebrating Vietnamese culture within the Chapman community. 

UVSA

Chapman's chapter of VSA stems from the Southern California region of UVSA (Union of VSA).

​

Charlene served as the Intercollegiate Council between 2019-2020. As an ICC, she was involved in developing and hosting external UVSA events for the SoCal region. The events included the annual Tet Festival and UVSA Beach Day.

Charlene co-created Chapman VSA's mascot and logo. She was the colorist of the logo.

Novalia Collective

Novalia Collective "provides facilitation, program design, and strategic support for teams and organizations ready to transform their communities and work environments into inclusive and equitable spaces." Charlene took part in the this is my body program which supports women of color to develop and perform their stories through the creative arts.

Tea & Transitions Podcast Logo

Charlene designed Novalia Collective's podcast logo Tea & Transitions. The podcast offers a place for women of color to express stories from their dynamic lives.

Murals

Charlene collaborated with muralist, Moises Camacho, and other painters to paint a mural in Downtown Santa Ana Historic District in order to promote the cultural community of Santa Ana. She is currently working with Camacho on another mural located at La Bonita Market in Anaheim.

LibroMobile

Established in Santa Ana, CA, LibroMobile is a literary project that integrates literature, visual exhibits and year-round creative workshops and live readings. The project aims to cultivate diversity through books and literary readings.

LibroMobile Literary Arts Festival

Charlene attended the 3rd Anniversary of the LibroMobile Literary Arts Festival with a virtual performance of her sampled short sci-fi story about Vietnamese immigration.

The short story stems from a school project that explored Vietnamese immigration and rebuilding of an ethnic enclave in Orange County.

Titled "1975"


Alongside her short story is a comic that adapts a scene from the performed piece.
